What kind of pants do you guys typically wear when /out/? I've tried a couple and I think the best solution would be a thin, breathable, durable fabric that could be layered with long underwear underneath, and rain pants over it to deal with most environments (would probably work to -10 Celsius).
Some notes:
>jeans: warm and protective however restrictive, water retaining, easily tears
>khakis: durable, non-restrictive, however still retains water, gets loose threads, rapidly develops permanent stains
>cargo pants: warm, heavy, durable, however usually very heavy, retains water, restrictive
