Camping hammock recommendations? Going /out/ with some buddies and looking for something that's durable, not chineseshit, and comes with a mosquito net. Been doing research but can't tell which reviews are legit and which are shills.

Don't buy a hammock sold at REI, Dicks, Cabelas etc. They are shit. ENO, Hennessy Grand Teton are garbage. Check out hand sewn US hammocks from Warbonnet, Dutch Ware Gear or Dream Hammock.

If you’re looking for cheap then go with any 11’ long hammock (Dutchware again is a good option) and any shitty tarp. It’s worth it to get a netted hammock rather than a removable net. Not sure where the Kelty Noah’s tarp is made by it’s a decent quality, sort of over built at the expense of weight and bulk.

There are two general option for insulation: an underquilt or a pad. Pads really aren’t all that great, but they do work. A decent middle ground is a diy poncho liner under quilt (PLUQ). It’s an easy project anyone can do and can handle temps into the 50’s. Down underquilts really are the best way to go though.

Lol I bought a shitty equip hammock from Walmart 3 years ago and it has served me very well. Same with my rain fly, 30 bucks on Amazon and lasted through a thunderstorm or two.
Sleeping bag and pad are more important honestly. Just use straps and you'll be fine.

Tenth Wonder Green Hornet.
Great price point, accomodates 6'3" and 250lb of me with ease, superb design particularly of the bugnet and the extra zipped layer to hold the underquilt or bedroll, extremely easy to erect.
I would advise you to put some effort into the suspension kit, though. Get decent webbing tree loops, then buy 12' of 7/16 Amsteel and make a pair of whoopee slings yourself. It is incredibly easy, and 7/16 Amsteel has a breaking strain of 19,800lbs - don't be tempted to cheap out with paracord instead. Then all you need is a couple of shackles or caribibers and you're sorted.

Something you might not think of - hammocks with zip-on bugnets are nice because you don't have to undo the suspension if you decide to put the net on after it's all set up. A little heavier and bulkier and more expensive than the fronkey/bottom-entry style, but worth it imo. I like my dutchware chameleon (1.6 hexon is a nice fabric), but I think it's overpriced. A good down underquilt is super worth it.

Is there a good ultra-light/compact hammock with a roughly 400lb capacity and integrated bug net that a man and a small woman could comfortably spoon in? The goal is to fit in a camelback mule and use the tarp and a pack cover.

Yeah, they have a pile of "Thru-Hiker" Chinesium for 120 dollars. It's Chinesium but fairly cheap so if you're not totally committed to hammock camping just yet, it's probably a good place to start.

Not really ultralight since what you’re looking for will be two layered and have extra channels sewn onto the sides to add width to accommodate two people.
There are lots of cheap two person hammocks, but they are usually only 9’
You’re best bet for one with an integrated bug net however is probably to make your own

A hammock is a rectangle of fabric with sewn ends. If the dimensions and weight are good, it's good. Just do a test run at home to see if it doesn't rip open when you try to lie in it.

I use two of the tieouts to keep my underquilt from migrating up my back and leaving my feet cold. You could use them to pull out the sides if you're claustrophobic or to string up a storage shelf at the head end for clothes, but mostly they're pointless. The hexon fabric is silkier than hyperD tho, would recommend.
