For an upcoming expedition, I will be driving from 0m sea level up to 2000-2300m elevation and spending the day up there doing field work, driving back down in the evening to sleep. I will be doing this daily for 2 weeks. The drive one way is about 1.5 hours.

What is the risk of developing altitude sickness?

Zero. The South Rim of the Grand 2 (one of the most visited national parks in the US; 5 million per year) is 2100m above sea level. Altitude sickness isn’t a problem until about 2700m.

Unhealthy people that live at 0m can get altitude sickness in low elevation areas. I lead a group for a brief hike/scramble right outside of Bridgeport, CA. They were from Torrance, CA. They struggled the entire time, and had difficulty adjusting for the first couple days that they were there.

Sounds like they just werent used to exertion. Has nothing to do with altitude sickness.

I used to work on Mauna Kea frequently. Sea level to 4000m was never an issue for anyone I know.
The only recommendation I have is don't challenge your friend to a foot race immediately after arriving at summit. Dizzy face plants into lava rock is less funny than it sounds.

I have zero problem driving from 100m to 2200m and then getting out of car and going hiking
my sister starts getting heavy altitude sickness at like 1500m on the same trip
