when I got in after my PhD (you don't need one, only bachelor of something forest related)
and advocate for it every since
you drive from forest to forest and document the health of the trees, the health of the floor and everything around
we also do tree counts every few years
most of the work is on the road (4days out 1day (home)office and every 4th week completely office)
and I specialized on "Primärwälder" (Old-growth forest) which I survey in all of Germany but mostly not as there is very little of if
so basically you drive up a few points on a certain forest a day, I get my drones out (they return automatically and fly preconfigured paths) and then I walk through the forest, take a few soil samples and photograph each interesting point
just a really cool job all around
and before you ask, I make ~80k€ (won't get much more, only small, yearly increases)
