There's a very wide area between luxury, quality and value. There's no fucking reason on earth, that hiking pants should be hundreds of dollars, when they take 10-20 minutes to make at most, and cost less than 25 bucks in materials.

Solid statement until you go off the deep end. Apple's prices aren't nearly operating on premiums like the ones you see here. An iPhone is about the same price as a Samsung smartphone. Not getting into that stupid trolled out fanboy debate. They're electronics and have some type of fair price.

Now these blankets, on the other hand, are stupidly priced. And I do buy good things at good prices, I own a pair of Wolverine boots that I put down 300-ish dollars for and I got an excellent pair of leather boots made in the US in return. I could've gotten two pairs of shitty Chinese leather boots but they wouldn't have been nearly as good as the ones I got now. That's price / quality tradeoff that makes sense.

People need to realize that milsurp is used gear of questionable quality sold at a deep discount, and so not a good indication of the actual cost of things. You can pretty easily pay $100 for a non-fancy, mass produced pure wool blanket.

If not, just don't buy them. A guy gave me a wool blanket to keep oil stains from getting in my trunk when I bought an outboard motor from him, and I still use it once in a while.

A good, plain wool blanket is around $100 new. You can pay more for something nicer. I'm sure somebody out there is selling a $1000 cashmere blanket, and I'm sure it's lovely. Pay for as much as you feel like paying. There's no price-fixing scheme here to make you pay $180 for a blanket.

That's what I'm saying. I have a pair of three season mountaineering pants that cost over $200. They're worth every penny. If I'm not climbing or climbing in fair weather, I usually wear a pair of REI Sahara pants...which are good but couldn't handle a mid to late spring snow climb (well...maybe).
