>>4415750>The f/2.8 version would be better but I can't be fucked hauling that around.You get use to hauling the weight around kinda quick. I typically use my 70-200 2.8 and my 400 4.5. Both weighing around 1.3kg, I also have a 1.4 and 2x tele depending on the situation. Otherwise I'd say just practice dropping that shutter speed, you can get more extreme shots with the benefit of lower ISO.

You'd think popping off a 1/13th pan at 400mm is crazy. But the funny reality is panning shots at that sort of shutter speed just aren't gonna be sharp. The plane of the sensor isn't curved to the arc you're following so only a section of your image is gonna be sharp. But because the effect is so exaggerated and striking you don't mind the results. There are other funny tricks you can do to claw back some clarity. But overall I'd say just being able to read text on a car at that sort of shutter speed is a good starting point.
