>>4111973not me (OP.) In my case it's a close-knit enough scene that its usually fine to just take stuff independently without permission from bands or the venue as long as you use discretion. Going in with that mindset of not wanting to take away from people's experience is definitely a good thing. Photographers have a really bad rep in hardcore because for one reason or another hardcore punk is one of the most well-documented small music scenes. It's actually too documented, there's too many retards with cameras at shows that A. don't stay out of the way B. don't take good photos to begin with or C. both. I've been to shows with 7ish people with cameras and it's completely unnecessary. I always try to avoid being that person that takes away from the fun. I'll either pick a spot and stay there, or only take photos for a few minutes then put the camera away somewhere safe and mosh the rest of the time. I also started doing video too just to feel less like another asshole with a camera and to produce something of greater documental value.
