>>3383838You can do that for sure. Its not always possible with the position of the camera and other variables. If you need to record into camera then do a buttload of checks before the gig starts. For most cases adjust the gain so the volume coming into your camera hovers around -12db (for most cameras/recorders that should be in the 'middle' on your input display).
-12db is enough to catch the low stuff but mid ground enough so if there's a sudden loud bit it shouldn't peak too much. Then again the PA guy should be mixing live, THEN AGAIN some sound guys just don't care, if they've had mixing jobs every night for weeks and been staying up till 3am mixing sound for endless lines of avant-garde jazz fusion bands and squirrel-kin queer slam poetry competitions they start caring less and less with each gig.
Its the same with video. I've started to become like that, at the end of the day its just a job, its even worse with older news cameramen that I know, they stopped caring long ago.
