I didn't expect this degree of response. I think there's been more than enough to justify the reveal.
First, the top shot is the beginner. This was taken on an ill-fated sunrise tour of Monument Valley. I brought both my cameras and handed it to one of my friends. I set the camera to a 'best guess' for a point & shoot with impossible dynamic range for a single shot the night before. Here's the OOC jpeg, and your explanation as to why the dynamic range is limited...
>>4159895There are definitely dust spots. Good eye.
There was an epic fucking dust storm the day before, and I changed lenses a lot, trying to get something worthwhile as I stood there helplessly watching the sun rise while the tour vehicle drove off and left us. We were supposed to drive around in a big 4X4 to places off the beaten path only open to the Navajo tour operators, while the sun rose. Instead, they left us in one spot and we walked 2 miles back to the hotel, royally pissed, because some people who paid for the tour didn't get out of bed on time. At least I got 2-3 decent-ish photos, and a refund. Sue me for taking touristy photos at touristy places while I'm being a tourist. I get paid for taking pictures of houses, and making them look weird so idiots look more. I'm not a fine artist, and I have no desire to be seen as one.
Thanks for playing /p/. This was fun to read. Also: I'm not telling you what my nicer camera is because it's more fun this way.
