You're not wrong, I just think it would be a shame not to have the choice to opt for a state-of-the-art dslr without having to squint at the 1DX. I've been thinking about whether a 1DX would be an alternative for the 5D/6D series for a couple of days now, think of gray market, buying used, any way reasonably priced, sometime.
I'm a hobbyist who now and then does photography for friends and acquaintances, and there I see (e.g. in documentation) applications where I prefer to use a dslr, which I know well and have experience with, where I know workarounds that I know won't work yet with milc - mainly due to the new focus system. The viewfinder brightness annoys me with evfs, hard contrasts make me oversensitive for corrections, zebra and too narrow depth of field prevent me from assessing the essential, the scene on several levels in depth. I'm chickened to put more responsibility on the focusing system and automatic exposure control when the shot has to capture a situation.
Hopefully the decision will be more fine-grained than "The 5D is now the R5".
