What are the best lightroom alternatives? Preferably no subscriptions or anything like that.

Some people like Capture One but I can't get used to it. Costs like $300 without sub and more if you're a Canonfag.

Darktable and Raw Therapee were the best free alternatives I've used, I had a slight preference for Darktable.

But raw are sooc. The fact you CAN hit the sliders is immaterial. In the 2000's it wasn't so, ofc. Times change. raw's sooc now.

gimp is great, but more of a photoshot equivalent, it uses rawtherapee to convert raw to tiff

I was just using the nikon View X and transfer software for the last 2 years, it's decent. I think between that and apple photos you can do fine. I started using lightroom classic a few months ago though and for me, just the organizing and file management makes it worth it.

I use raw therapee and affinity photo. The former for global image modifications / management, the latter for final touches. Affinity photo is on sale for $25 all the time and better then photoshop imo. Raw therapee is free. It's a nice combo imo
