My first photos with an old film SLR

I'm absolutely new to photography. I found an old Zenit-E film SLR at my grandma's house and decided to give it a shot.

The only lens I have for it is a 58mm Helios 44-2

After I got the photos back from the lab I immediately saw the light leaks, sorry about those. Upon investigatin, I realized that the shutter curtain was leaking light. I will fix that in the near future.

Until then I want to show my pictures to people and hear what they think I should do to improve.

Yup, it was right in front of a pet shop and I liked the saturated colour compared to the surroundings

Again, I actually like the light leak here. This wasn't a problems with the shutter curtain, but rather the door latch came a little loose and the door wiggles open after a few hours. I've fixed that issue since then.

Again I wanted to go for a candid look. Due to the lack of a telephoto lens though, I had to get close, and at that point I wanted to ask for consent because people in my city are rarely okay with you taking photos of them.

But then the guy obviously tensed up a little and his face and posture wasn't as natural and relaxed as before. So I had the idea of making him laugh with a joke, and I think it kinda worked.

They are. Going outside with the sole intention of looking for and capturing stories put me in a state of mind that I've never experienced before, it was amazing

I'll definitely switch labs, which includes where I also have the roll scanned in my case. The annoying vertical lines you see on the bottom of the images is a physical scratch on the surface of the film, probably happened in the lab where I had it developed
