Gonna buy a second hand camera tomorrow.
What redflags should I look for, what details should I pay the most attention to ?

Lose Buttons, scratches anywhere on the glas or display, viewfinder, general look and especialy feel in your hands. It should feel good to hold it.
And if the seller is just a cunt may don't buy it either.

bought a sigma 300mm from ebay, when it arrived i thought it was a bit heavy
i put it on my camera but it was all black, looked through it and saw there was something inside it
messaged the seller, no response and ebay gave me a refund
i opened it up and it turns out the seller had taken all the glass out of the middle except the end pieces and put a dead rat in there
all too common nowadays sadly, used market is fucked

Have you tried other places like KEH or Gearfocus? Cause I get nearly all my gear off eBay, but these days it feels like shit and people throwing ridiculously absurd prices on things compared to others.

I get a lot of great deals from ebay because most of the time its just someone clearing out someone else's stuff so it is sold for less than its worth

I've been wanting to get a set of lenses off eBay for a bit, but am a bit weary of spending a larger than usual amount of money like on a place on eBay. I do practice things like "100% or 99% rating", if they have generally good reviews, BIN over auction, low watch count, etc... but that still kinda throws me off a bit.

just make sure the product is listed as working, if it's sold as "used" that means

then that means it should be working, if it arrives and it doesn't work perfectly then you can contact the seller, if they don't respond or give you nothing for the damaged item they've sold you then ebay will give you a full refund and you get to keep the item

personally I have never had to do this but if someone scams you on ebay you're fully covered

check all buttons and dials, take an f/16 shot of the sky and check for dust (easy to remove but if seller didn't clean then use it against him to lower the price). take a high iso shot of darkness to see how many hot/dead pixels there are

the camera will be at most 1 year old, so I shouldn't expect that much dead pixel if none at all

Probably too late to make a difference for your purchase. But for others I would expect to get the original box with original paper work, original camera strap, anything that would have come with the camera from new such as the viewfinder eyepiece / batteries / charger and lastly potentially the original warranty card if it has one.

Other things I would look out for are, any damage to the screen, any burnt pixels, anything that may have come loose such as the lens mount, tripod mount, dials and wheels.

Last thing would be to check the shutter count. The amount of photos taken with the camera will generally tell you how much it has been used.

Take a several second exposure at iso 6400 or higher with the lens cap on. Check the picture in playback for hot pixels
