So this thing in almost mint condition has ended up in my dirty hands, mostly against my will. Is it worth trying to use it for semi-casual photos or is it easier just to use a modern mid-range chinkphone camera with a Gcam fork?

bridge cameras with 1/2.3" sensors like this are only good for zoom on bright days with clear skies and of course a chinkphone will do better results.
That Olympus camera it's 11 years old and has the same sensor size of a smartphone camera, also the more you zoom, the less light the sensor gets, the worse image quality become.
