Just bought a used camera from a shady character off craigslist, pretty sure it's stolen given how cheap he let it go for, but it's film and no real way of finding it's previous owner, am I naughty for just rolling with the great deal or what?

Almost bought a 5dmk4 with a 16-35/2.8 for like 700 canuckbucks on fb marketplace from something like this. Only one shitty cellphone pic and it looked like it was all packed in a bag, probably pinched from a trunk or something. By the time I messaged the guy he said it was gone already. Looked at his profile and basically the white trashiest tatted up teeth missing crackhead lookin fella. Missed out on that one, still regret it to this day desu.

unfortunately there isn't really much you can do about it. it might be more ethical to buy it knowing it's stolen because otherwise it would remain the belonging of a thief. at least you have the power to return it if you were feeling generous—for free or some other arrangement. just make sure if you do buy it that you receive evidence that you bought it from someone shady so that if you do eventually meet the original owner by some miracle that they know you're not the thief.
