I'm clueless about cameras or film. I want something easy to carry on my hunting/fishing trips. Good zoom, night mode would be a plus. This one has bad zoom.

Seems like you want a simple fixed lens point and shoot.

panasonic lx100 m2 or Sony RX100 VII. The panasonic has better sensor and lens giving better image quality and low light performance, the sony has more zoom and is smaller

If you want to take it seriously? Buy a sony a7c, the 28-60 kit zoom, and a samyang 24mm f1.8 for snapping when it's dark-ish. You will figure out how to use it and know when you need more.

If you are just snapshitting "dat bird oder dere" stuff, lumix zs200d, and forget night shooting without a tripod, or maybe look into the lolympus em5iii/om5

You might want a tough. Those are optimized for ruggedness. For example TG-7 but it's not the only (or cheapest) option.

You can get a 2nd hand waterproof compact camera like TG-4 or TG-5 with that budget.
TG-5 apparently can take 4K video. (Dunno good or bad.)
