I absolutely can not paint people, but I am really good at flowers, animals, and landscapes. When I first started playing with oils I didn't really get them and was convinced that I needed to use as little paint as possible and to try to mix my colors on the canvas. Then I learned what impasto is, had someone introduce me to a palette knife, and figured out that it is okay to go hog wild with the paint as long as it is thick over thin. Recently gesso has gotten so expensive that I started fucking around for acrylics, but you can't muddle the paints as easily, and they dry way too fucking quick for the kind of lazy do over style of art I seem to be okay at.
I am not photo realistic at all, I just use as few lines as I can to try and get the things I see in my head on to paper and hopefully have them look close enough to what is in my head so that other people can get it. It really doesn't work out a lot of the time, especially when I am trying to do draw people who aren't white as I mentioned above pic very rel
