He had a Subdural Hematoma. In extreme cases they cut away sections of the skull via craniotomy, unseat the brain slightly through the hole to relieve pressure, suction out the Hematoma, reseat the brain and put the removed parts of the skull back in place before stitching. It's an extreme way to treat it but Shibata was completely fucked, it's why they said he'd never wrestle again. Depending on where the Hematoma is they may drill directly in to the skull, but then you're dealing with risks of nerve damage or ongoing paralysis.
