If I understand the story correctly, there was an attempt to make a lightheavyweight division of sorts in the 80s to entice more Japanese wrestlers to the WWF, but they literally cared so little about it that they lost the belt. Like, literally misplaced it. However, it actually ended up on the independent circuit and eventually wound up in the hands of Ultimo Dragon. I think WWF requesting its return prior to re-kickstarting the lightheavyweight division in the 90s is what saw an end to the J-Crown.
