Conrad Thompson is proof of how low the bar is to become a 'name' in the wrestling business. He would get laughed out of any legitimate business in the western world, but in wrestling he's literally just walked in and made a name for himself by having very slightly above average social skills and/or charisma.

I don't know if you could develop autism late in life, but Dave was never as bad as he is now. Shit, he was the one hosting the show and leading it during the E-Yada days and he sounds fine. No stuttering, speaks clearly, makes his points quickly. I think it's an age thing. Though, Dave mentions how the Benoit stuff burnt him out. He was also doing stuff for Yahoo Sports at the time.
