I actually tried watching NJPW for the first time in years just now. Their main event style is still the same garbage as it's been and they're too far gone to ever change their formulaic style. Literally went on to do other things while i left it as background noise

He's not that good yet. Still very much a movez wrestler like Kenny Omega but without the pacing to let his matches feel bigger. And this is coming from someone who only watches NJPW.

ospreay is very reliant on the "suddenly crank speed to 11 to get a pop" trick
it works okay but it really is just a trick and he just spams it over and over

Yeah he's definitely still relying on his athleticism. He should get better at emoting more naturally, which is something Omega struggled with (and probably still is), and I think that's an obvious easy low hanging fruit he can grab to take it to the next level.
