Savage/Hogan had a year long build with the Mega Powers storyline. This may have been the best storyline WWF has ever done, and certainly was one of the longest too. Anyway, the industry being hot or cold makes an impact here. That said, the most surprising figure is Bret/Yoko at WrestleMania IX. Industry was down but it still did well. I'm surprised the rematch didn't produce but I suppose it was nearly the same since -10K is negligible.
I also think live attendance should be factored in when it comes to what draws. WrestleMania VI for example managed to have 67K attendance, while WrestleMania V only managed 19K. WrestleMania VIII had 62K attendance btw, which was close to the record. It was also promoted with a double main event of Hogan/Sid and Flair/Savage. I think all of this is worth considering.
