"I thought you said this was temporary."
"It is! All I need is some time and I'll rectify it."
"Well you better get to that, right?" You smirked, deciding to give her a chance to prove herself.
"Of course I will. Just watch." Yumi said with a grin, her eyes closing. When she opened them again they were now glowing with an almost intimidating light.
Any respect she might've inspired completely vanished when she started doing poses and making some of the most chuuni chanting you've ever heard. You think she even said a few words in German? Well, it was called Eastian in this world, but it's basically the same language. The point was that she was somehow giving you second-hand embarrassment.
She usually got all glowy-eyed when using her ghost powers to look for something or when thinking really hard. The most notable of the former was the time she was searching for Aneko's soul. You hoped the added poses and chants were just her giving a dramatic flair rather than some requirement anyone with ghost magic needed to do, but if they made it so that things wouldn't end in a disaster like that small scouting mission you, Yumi, Mel and Herta did on the cave, then you'd take it.
Thinking of ghostly magic made you realize that someone's presence was fast approaching under the cover of illusion. Unfamiliar as you were with these ghostly senses, you still intuited a 'loud' feeling from the illusions surrounding this person. You could somehow tell it was a beguiler, a very skilled one at that, and the ability used in crafting said illusions had some fae magic mixed in. Yumi had shared with you that ghosts could see through illusions, but you expected that to be more like how you usually saw through illusions, not whatever this was.
If the fact that it was both a beguiler and the fae wasn't enough to tell you who it was, you soon discerned the familiar mana of your second tallest slave-wife.
Mel standing before you with some curiosity, binoculars in hand. She'd been looking into the mystery of the dead sharks last you saw her.
"Mel, I know you're there." You said towards the presence. You could practically pinpoint its exact location, something which you usually struggled even with how used to her abilities you were.
"Master?" Mel stripped off her illusions, silencing the feeling you had when looking at them. "That's you. I can tell that's you. Are you alright? Is this part of the powers you were practicing with Yumi? What are you doing here?"
"I'm fine. Yeah, I've been practicing this stuff with Yumi. This is less of a power and more of a mistake. And I should be the one to ask you what you're doing here." You replied to each of her queries. "I thought you were by the shoreline looking into the dying sharks."
"I was. I think we're dealing with a big squid."
"What?"
"I'll tell you the details later." She said. The more she stared at you, the more concern was held in her eyes. "Are you sure you're alright, Master? Do you feel... off?"
