Kidane watched with mixed amusement
as Sinfel gave his report. Contentment
knowing human rabble have been cut down
but irritated that Sinfel strayed beyond
his missions scope. Yet the Weapons
Master was demonstrating an air of
extraordinary humility. Prostrate on the
ground, not a hint of playful banter.
Even Habta, who delighted at his rivals
slightest degradation kept his face
rigid.
"And thus I present to you your new
subjects, glorious Matron."
She left him in silence, pondering this
unexpected development. The males of
this house have long grown too, free.
A growing pit in her stomach told her
this must not grow. The Shadowblade
was always bordering rebellious, his
skills too precious to sadly make an
example of. But now her own Weapon
Master? Troubling.
"I'll allow this for now, Sinfel. This
is not the first time this House has
made use of mercenaries, or 'free blades'
but make no mistake, I rule this House.
If they give the slightest hint of
disobedience, a mere glance of rebellion
I will fertilize the mountain with their
corpses."
"Yes Mistress."
"And you, 'free blade', will experience
a hell no God could save you, if you
dare to step out of line."
She spoke, to the visibly dirty and
ragged man Sinfel spoke so highly of.
Every dog pack had it's alpha, she
supposed.
