>>6115333Surprisingly, when you pull on the door handle to the kitchen, you are not met with any resistance. No lock or magical barrier keeps the door closed, so a second later, it’s opened. “Yeah, my friends have been acting kind of weird the past couple of days, but that’s it for any strange-” You make out the tail-end of Minato-kun’s sentence before both the slime and average-looking man turn towards you. They’re in positions reminiscent of when you and Minato-kun shared the room only a little bit ago, with the slime on the counter and Maxwell on the back wall.
“Oh, is it time to meet up again?” Maxwell questions as you and Seo-yun are revealed to him. What he doesn’t question or seem to notice is the closed door behind you.
“I don’t think so?” You state, “I wasn’t really expecting the door to just open,” And that’s you being honest. Is this intentional, or did Morgan just not prepare for a scenario like this?
”Based on my impression of her, both scenarios have an equal probability. The mad rarely make for a predictable opponent.”
Maxwell blinks once, “Oh okay,” Then again. He doesn’t go to say anything else. You doubt he has anything more to say at all.
Seo-yun raises her head to look at the two men in the other room, raises her hand for a singular wave, and flops back onto the bed. It’s not like you were exactly expecting her to help you out, but a little effort would be nice! At the very least, you grab the teakettle from the kitchen to keep the door open so she isn’t excluded from any conversation between all of you, whatever that turns out to be.
“You guys learn anything insightful?” You ask to start off and receive the expected shrug and shameful rocking back and forth of the slime.
“Uh, other than the fact this whole thing is loony?” Maxwell says with a gesture to the boat around you all.
“Oh, wait! I learned Maxwell was reincarnated, so he’s been here for a long time!” Minato-kun says, puffed up and expecting praise.
“Yeah, bud, I introduced myself with that,” Only for Maxwell to instantly deflate him. You mean this in the most literal way you can. Minato-kun resembles a puddle for a few seconds, “It ain’t a secret or anything, but I do got some attachments here, yeah,” He then raises and shakes his hands in a disarming gesture, “N-not enough to betray the Heaven Society or anything though.”
“I wasn’t accusing you,” You state before awkwardly looking around.
It seems you’ve stopped whatever conversation Minato-kun and Maxwell were having dead before they could figure out something more worthwhile with each other. Though that doesn’t mean you can’t reignite it or another one. Or perhaps you could test the lock on Morgan’s door and see what the other two are up to.
”You could always beat the answer out of someone,” What part of we’re not the bad guys do you not understand?
