"So," he began, "This is the elusive Savant lover my reports have told me about," he examined you, "If you're half the man my daughter says you are, then I can expect you and your progeny to conquer half the Continent through sheer numbers."
Aila turned to you horror, "Master, he's not being serious!" She cried out.
"Indeed, I jest," he said with a sly smile. You had the suspicion he wasn't really joking, "Of course, my little girl here has given me good reason to approve of you. And after getting confirmation about your... Savant-ness, and more importantly of your good character, I agreed to it."
"How were you able to make sure of that?" You asked. Aila's glance shifted between you both with some worry.
"Information can always be procured by using the right channels," he answered vaguely, "A good question, human. You've a good head upon thee. Now, I've already assured my little girl that your union with her would have my blessing," his smile became thin before he pulled out a scroll, "And, as an elf of my word, here it is; my official blessing."
A servant elf took it from his hands, unfurled it and read its contents. It was a document that confirmed Aila as your property, not unlike the paperwork that Ruby wrote up for you to officially own all of your wives. Aldaron the Third snatched it when the servant was done, then presented it to you.
You gracefully accepted it.
Aldaron clapped his hands, "With that done, and with my own approval on record," he motioned to the guards, "Tell me, John Doe, are you going to take my daughter away from me?"
"Yeah." You replied candidly.
"And if I were to arrest you for those words?"
"I'd still marry her."
"I see." Aldaron frowned. The guards reached for their swords and guns and spears, pointing them towards you.
"Father!" Aila was distressed. "You said you wouldn't!" Aila turned to you, almost frantic, "Please don't hold this against him, Master! He always does this to test suitors-"
"Would you keep my daughter safe and happy?" Aldaron continued, but not before shooting a look at Aila to quiet her.
"Obviously," you replied without fear. While Aila tried to reassure you again, you had a certain mastermind's paranoid schemes in your back pocket. The fact that any one of her plans could bail you and Aila out at a moment's notice calmed any worries you had. Thank you, Ruby.
The guards lowered their weapons.
"Would you make my daughter your first wife?" Aldaron asked.
"That depends," you replied.
The guards raised their weapons again.
And so it continued. Weapons up and down, the king asking questions, the queen keeping quiet.
You felt a little annoyed. Sure, you'd likely be acting worse than he was if the roles were swapped, but still.
You just wanted to add a cute elf princess to your harem. Was that too much to ask?
"Well, that's that. I've not much else to add," Aldaron said. "I know I approve. You know I approve. The law knows I approve. Does anyone here not approve?"
"I don't."
