This new abundance of copper is used to create larger and efficient tools, not only for the extraction of more metal but for the felling of trees. The amount of lumber at our tribe's disposal increases massively. Whole logs are used for the creation of walls for frontier settlements and dugout canoes for traversing the water, but some clever tribesmen start cutting cross-sectional pieces out of timber instead. They notice that the round sections rotate with ease, while the sections that are cut into cuboids fit together nicely, no matter which tree they were cut from.
This influx of lumber has led to the invention of the solid wheel and the plank, though it will take some time for our tribe to utilise the full potential of these concepts.
More immediately, the clearing of woodland allows for the expansion of our tribe. The slow retreat of the Grascan creates more pastureland with every year that passes, along with more safety from the beasts that inhabited the woods that once stood there. New families are born as the latest generation of beast-bringers flocks to this unclaimed territory, though across the river to the east, the Scagravic frown at all of this. While our tribe's copper tools are incapable of felling the titanic blackwood trees that they consider sacred, the tree-dwellers are still worried by the Protavic proclivity for deforestation. Trade with that clan was already infrequent, but now it becomes non-existent as they withdraw from any contact with our tribe.
A generation passes.
A handful of envoys come from the Toprocravic territory across the Choslitol, to meet with the leaders of the Protavic people. However, these petitioners are not sealskins. No, they represent the last remnants of the smoke people who stubbornly cling to their culture and refuse to mingle with their conquerors. These Procruvic emissaries cover their skin with layers of ash instead of sealskin coats and they view their practice of inhaling flower fumes as a way of communing with the spirits of the world, while the Toprocravic treat it as a mere past-time.
As one of the fire-worshipping tribes that inhabited the southern shores of the Croglatol, they once had a strong bond with the light-bringers and wood-burners. If the Protavic are able to appease them, the Procruvic may be able to forge a stronger bond with the Drocravic on the behalf of our tribe and bring an end to the hostility that they feel towards our clan.
