It was early in the evening in the facility, the sound of chatting staff filling the halls, as they left the test chambers, the containment chambers they monitored or the laboratories they were working in. Amongst the evening rush was Lexie, a lone guardswoman who stretched her arms as she returned to the small soldier barracks she was stationed at. After walking for a good while, avoiding other staff and transport vehicles, she scanned her work card for the evening and headed to her bed. As she lied down, she let out a sigh before grabbing a book, her getting a few pages in before suddenly being interrupted. "Well, you seem to be brimming with energy, huh." An eager and somewhat female voice responded, Lexie putting her book away and responding: "What, am I not allowed to take things easy after a long day of work, Mel?"

Lexie looked up and saw her friend, Melaine, standing there with a confident smile. The raven haired girl would sit beside her friend on bed, before responding: "Of course you are. I just was hoping we could chat a bit. You know, you could tell me how things are going with Keiko whilst I tell you a bit about Aello. In fact, I had a most eventful day with Aello, her testing out her telekinetic abilities on a variety of objects." Melaine spoke a bit teasingly, Lexie letting out a scoff. "I presume that shithead Roraima wasn't there?" Melaine shook her head and took a more annoyed tone. "If that asshole was there, I wouldn't be nearly as happy as I am right now, hm? In fact, I'd be ranting and raving about him now. Naaah, it was just a test with her caretaker and the rest of us watching." Lexie nodded in turn, seeming a bit more reassured. "Fair enough..." There was a bit of silence, before Melaine gave her friend a soft bump with her elbow. "Hey, one of the guys working with Aello said... they are thinking of moving to a different subject. Maybe this'll be your chance to join me in a subject you really wanna spend more time with?"

Melaine was trying to be optimistic for her friend, knowing that she wanted to look after the same harpy subject really badly. Of course, Lexie was a bit less optimistic, responding a little hesitantly. "I mean, I'd love to be reassigned. Hell, I even sent out that request a while ago... but like, I don't know if I feel comfortable leaving Keiko behind now. She's really sweet and has struggled to come out of her shell, and I'm starting to get to know her." Lexie let out a sigh before looking away. "Honestly, I may just go back and take that request back if possible. Or just say no when I get offered something new." Melaine nodded in turn, before confidently adding: "Well, whatever choice you make, I'll be there to support you!" Lexie showed a relieved smile, before the two started chatting about Aello and Keiko. Eventually, the two also decided to get some food from the nearby guardsmen cafeteria. Though as they were about to leave, Lexie and Melaine would be stopped by a scientist.
