BATS were popular because, like that other anon said, they were the only bad guys GI Joe was allowed to killed. It was an extremely special villain to kids, hence getting a second figure in 1991 and a boss for them too.
So of course they became big on the secondary market when kids grew up to be adults and had the money to army build their favorite characters.

Still, other villains who did little were popular, hence Alley Viper getting a second figure four years later. The Vipers themselves having subcategories (techno vipers, alley vipers, heat vipers, etc). They're background characters, who are treated like literal punching bags when they actually get involved. Yet they were popular.... unlike more important characters like Serpentor and Voltar.

It's always possible. We got reissues of the Cobra Island stuff early on about a year after they initially released, and Legends got a good amount of reissues last year. I think the more likely outcome is a desert Vamp or a retro card Clutch though

He's right that the BAT does fetch a stupid high price, but secondary prices doesn't really mean much in terms of actual popularity.

Something like the Alley Vipers were extremely popular, so even when they saturated the market with them, they continued selling out. In the Classified line, no one really army builds, hence the Alley Viper becoming a shelf warmer.

Yes they do, but re-tooled. We got a second VAMP already with the Stinger. In Hasbro that counts. Hasbro can never do a straight second run that's just a repaint in Classified. That's why we got three battle armor Baroness with each one slightly different than the others. It's cheaper to do a straight repaint, but Hasbro has to find a way to keep pumping up the cost which also pumps up the price.

Sure they can give us a desert VAMP, but they'll change so much little shit on it to make it as expensive or more expensive than the first one. They can't help it. Helping customers save money is something they don't know how to do.

The higher the prices, the fewer the customers. They've already priced themselves out of the market in many areas, which is why toy aisles are shrinking in most places. It's simple economics that a company that lost a billion dollars last year needs to understand. The rumors of Hasbro completely leaving the toy market to become an IP-licensing company have been around for years now. That would be avoided if they'd understand that part of the business world is to be a price-competitor.

IG Destro has been a prevailing want among the fanbase for years, it was a jewish move to pair him with a vehicle nobody actually cares about and charge 100 bucks for the set
but it'll probably do okay because unlike the Stinger it's (in part) something that many people wanted, and the Destro does look great
It'll probably have the knock-on effect of selling off a decent amount of grendiers and IG bats to people who now want to army build, too

Only the traffic cone orange and blue one. The pursuit of Cobra one goes for over retail, and good luck getting the one that came with the bunker.

Actual popularity is when everyone has one or had a chance to get one and still goes for way too much money.
like fucking pokemon red and blue or whatever the original pokemon were. fucking outrageous something so common goes for more than msrp, or like the OG BAT.

Also, all this talk made me realize i should buy another Rage tank, but not a lot of people are selling complete ones. I look at completed listings and apparently i missed out on a lot of great deals. FUUCK.
Also not a lot of Alley Vipers like the officers either.

That's how you turn a win into a loss. Every Classified collector I know has construction-worker-vest AV as well as a BAT. Hasbro responded to the demand by producing so many that they crossed the line into the realm of "too many." You'd figure that they woud have learned their lesson over a quarter-century ago when they took the high demand for POTF2/Episode 1 stuff, and over-produced it to where today it's still worthless. They even did it with Cold Slither, which was a damn near instant sell-out. Now they've since re-ordered and re-stocked, and produced too many to where Pulse is gonna sit on that surplus for a very long time.

Something can be rare and worthless or common and valuable. Demand drives the value moreso than quantity. Look at Rattler Baroness where there's just a hair under 27k of them out there, which is NOT a low number. Yet her prices will never dip below $100.

I'm a mark for AVs in general, but I go hard in the paint for the yellow/black. I think in the PoC's case (and the 30th, come to think of it) it's just I am not a fan of the combo of red and gray.
If I'm completely honest, the Shock Trooper made for a better urban combat look than any Alley Viper.

It sold poorly as a convention exclusive.
It only got "restocked" because they shipped everything back to their warehouse and was recounted to be placed on their webstore. Toy companies literally can't put a toy in production that fast, because it takes so long to produce even if only just to reproduce something that was already made. Since factories are run on a schedule and they will not halt the production of something already in motion just remanufacture a convention set.

Might as well pretend that toys appearing at Ross are also restocks and reorders, instead of shit that they couldn't sell.

Your third world ignorance of how big America is showing.
That's a very low number for GI Joe.
GI Joe used to sell in the mid-hundreds of thousands to millions every quarter. 27k is basically "What if every Walmart and Target in America carried 5 figures each."
Something like Pursuit of Cobra had at least 10x that of cases per store every two months, so when something like the Cobra Shock Trooper sold out and went for insane prices, there were 500k-900k of figures that sold out and people still couldn't get enough of, hence the red Retaliation pack containing the red Shock Trooper that sold out instantly (100k-500k) and then the 50th pack containing the Shock Trooper in normal colors that also sold out (30k-50k since since walmarts/targets didn't carry it).

So again, rarity ≠ popularity.

The Shock Trooper to me was for indoor and riot use, hence the plastic shields. They're for controlling a population.

Whereas the Alley Viper was a real shock trooper, thus carrying a heavyass metal shield that can also triple as a weapon and firing platform. It's portable cover that looks like it can withstand rifle fire. They have that grappling gun on the backpack so they can scale buildings to take out forces who barricaded themselves inside tall buildings. They're decked out for serious urban combat.

Shock Troopers are used when you have a problem with their own citizens or possibly upset hippies at a Cobra consulate.

Alley Vipers are for when Cobra wants to pacify an armed population and whatever defense forces that weren't taken out by the main army that are now hiding in a city under siege.

I have 3 targets and 4 Wal-marts all within an hours drive from more or less, and they all have classified figures
a few of them are still stuck with peg-warmers, but either way, that's 7 in one small-ish city in Texas and I would be curious how much of the 100% of that supposed 10--20% of classified carrying stores I have within my grasp, as the apparent luckiest toy collector alive

Really? Where I live, out of 28 Walmarts in my city only four or five get in any Classified of any decent quantity. Plus Target. There's only a couple in my city that I can rely on, and I know it's only two Targets and only 4 Walmarts because of the "ship from" option that shows which store shit ships from. And I've already abandoned getting in the Ferrari (Mazda) and "hunting in the wild" for most of them except one single Target that does a decent job at carrying new releases. I just handle local shopping the lazy way of having it shipped from whatever store in the city that bothers to get in (insert macguffin).

He's taking past arguments I've made and twisted them around. Basically, I said a couple of my local Walmarts no longer carry the Classified line because it's a poor seller and it's happening across America. Someone said it's entirely localized in my location, ignoring that /toy/ has also been reporting on this for years too, so i told him that he can find hundreds if not thousands of other people in different states and cities by googling [specific keywords] reporting the same thing, so he doesn't need to take just my word for it.

And maybe the Baroness selling 27k isn't a low number considering how GI Joe Classified line isnt popular. Maybe the GI Joe line today only sells the same amount as a normal collector line does, which is 40k-80k.

I don't get this, all of those are based off "western"(American largely) properties that have largely been associated with American art styles, no anime. If you like those properties you liked them, most likely, through the lens of western art.
