Whats the final consensus on how lego handled the pokemon license in 2026 and will 2027 be better? Keep in mind the only sets available worldwide were 18+ sets because all smart play shit was locked in only 6 regions (though that might change next year)

>Whats the final consensus on how lego handled the pokemon license in 2026
you could write a whole novel on how Lego (tried to? succeeded in?) milking MAX BUCKS out of Pokemon fans by only offering the most expensive sets, manipulated (dumb) Smart Brick desirability by including it for double-prices, made a ridiculous basketball-sized Pokeball only so they could include the minifigs at a $300 price point...

and you can't blame them, because Lego needs maximum dollar-dollar-bills-yo. on some level... good for them. I can't afford a $650 set, but...

also in that book would be chapters on how Mega Bloks already did Pokemon, but a lot better, and the only thing Mega Bloks DID NOT do was Minifigs, because that's the thing Lego has locked-down. and guess what Lego did not do??? Minifigs! (except, like I said, at the $300 price point ugh)

it took Lego like 7 years to make Mario Minifigs like everybody wanted, so eventually Pokemon might get there, too. Lego's already blown the "not-possiblitiy" of CMF-style trainers with tiny minifig-scaled molds, they do it all the time with the CMF figures including unique pets. they could EASILY do that type of thing.

thanks for listening to my podcast

Pretty much. But like I said, I also included some minifigs from Alien Conquest and even Galaxy Patrol. I even included that 3-in-1 space mining mech. I like to think that was a peice of tech left when the empire colapsed and just left behind on Mars. Using it the explorers make quantum leaps in their understanding of space travel though the tech it has. Also I worked out a story element where there are two crystals they are searching for. The purple crystals are proccessed into batteries, the green crystals are used for computer chips essentially. They allow for much more advanced AI, which is needed to navigate the greater cosmos. I liked the idea from Final Space where an AI is needed to run a ship, making the ship a character all it's own.

They could get away charging $15.99 for a Pokemon Trainer CMF line. The selling point would be that each comes with a pokeball and a unique pokemon sculpt piece, like the Pikachu and Evee in the $300 set. Then just make the trainers from recycled parts and call it a day. The minifigs are just there so it isn't 100% obvious they are charging $15.99 for a tiny piece of plastic. If they really wanted to push it, they would put different pokeballs with each trainer. Hyberball, superball, masterball, and whatever else they came up with. I'm an oldfag so I gave up after Red and Blue.

anything over say... $8... and I'd want some bricks with it, even if it's just a small scene to pose them in.

just a Minifig with muh-molded-pokemon in a ball seems like worth $8. (even though Lego does CMF figures with molded unique animals constantly, for only $5...)

that's me, personally. it's clear that Lego could probably charge $20 each, for only a figure and tiny plastic thing, and still sell gazillions... probably

it's odd that the Fantastic 4 tower is there since it's from like, a different universe, or whatever

just such an odd mix of MCU with some non-MCU stuff? I think? it's confusing. I know they wanted to get Minifig Galactus but he'd still be bigger in this scene

I actually thought of designing a similar micro-scale diorama for Lego Ideas, but if this small thing is $100 dollar, and what I'm working on is like 10x bigger (not just a row of houses, but an actual diorama), I don't think lego would ever produce it.

we've been over this before. all it takes is like 1 or 2 people per The Lego Store to perpetuate insane huge sets.

the margins are so vast between "actual cost to produce/ship/etc" and "price it sells for" especially if The Lego Store gets profits directly to Lego (as opposed to like, Walmart, which has to mark the sets up themselves, to make Walmart profits)

one or two rich cool people. thank them for this nonsense.

also, is that a scene from Spider Man Far From Home?

Lego Ideas announced a new challenge to make a Star Wars x Marvel crossover set, it's split in 3 parts with creating a crossover character, a vehicle or scene. Winner(s) will get the project(s) to be made into real set(s). There are also two rumoured lego star wars x marvel sets coming in late 2027, Iron Falcon is rumoured to be one of them so don't waste time to make that. The Ideas project(s) will most likely release around 2028 after they are approved. Also apparently you are allowed only A New Hope characters for this crossover from Star Wars side.

why do they do this? to create resentment among the customers when they "pick" ridiculous things?

Lego already knows what they want to do, why try and "blame" this on muh-contest-submissions? "hey, y'all wanted a $800 set, you voted for it!" (contest rigged all along to produce $800 set)

the D&D set was a disaster, to be blamed on muh-fans-vote

-way too big (Lego needs dat $360 price point!)
-just a couple of characters
-not a single dice included?
-no customizing concept, the core of D&D is making your own stuff up, not a single thing in that set gave that experience, despite being LEGO which should also encourage customizing. so it should have been exponential creations, but had none, instead. Lego JUST MADE table tennis and Women's Soccer Team sets with extra character heads/wigs and a whole Farrell Williams set with a million more heads. nah you get this guy in D&D why make your own?

b-but it's what the fans voted for!

>no customizing concept
You know normally I would call you a fag and tell you just to swap some fucking parts (note that none of the bodies show skin for this exact reason), but yeah, this is D&D and there should be some variety. I actually WOULD expect some extra heads, bodies, hats and weapons to make all kinds of characters, but you should know by now that this is LEGO, and that they do not respect you and do not care about what 'You' want, they know they have to shovel out half baked garbage and that you will buy it like a good little consumer, and that if you don't enough other good whales WILL that whatever they make will be profitable.

Personally I said 'fuck this gay shit', grabbed a couple of each CFM from that wave and proceeded to make dozens of my own adventurers from their pieces and my own collection. There is actually no reason to get that set for the minis, and as a guy here conclusively proved the castle can easily be replicated far cheaper with pieces you already own.
