LotR would still be popular for creating archetypes and settings people would be stealing from for the next 60 years.
Without lotr, it's likely fantasy would still be treated as a children's genre. Fantasy was very different before Tolkien. Hell, even the elves from the Hobbit were more traditional than the ones from LotR
Also authors like Stephen King took inspiration from LotR and Hobbit when writing their books, so that would have an effect on the horror genre as well.
