But also, yes, you're better off not trying to flush cut it right off the runner. If you leave a bit of the gate intact you can take a second pass at it with more precision. Maybe use an xacto blade to trim it off instead of the nippers. That will minimize the stress marks, which usually can be rubbed out with a fingernail.
