All of their functions / gimmicks were done better later, and the color scheme is quite boring - much like how exploriens is not nearly as loved as the other factions unique and striking colors, neon, high contrast, etc.
They definitely pioneered space overall, but they were a stop gap between classic and the truly great era. A lot of the later classic space sets were more interesting and actually seemed more futuristic than futuron.
I wish I liked them more, but I just don't. Even the star defender was just done better with blacktron 2's aerial intruder. I suppose there is value in having a civilian faction, but it's sort of like how a basic creator town building isn't exactly inspiring.
