As to the elbows, it's more a question of compensating for the deficiencies of the shoulder, since unlike us meat beings with our connective tissues it's all skeleton. Strictly speaking, a human elbow *is* more of a hinge joint, but our shoulder rotates at multiple points and at a wider angle. So if you want a moc to be able to, say, cross its arms, you need more sideways-moving elbows.
