>>10858680Completionists, scalpers, and limited production runs of only a couple thousand to create the illusion of scarcity and value. The couple hundred die hard Flash fans might pay $40 to fill out the rest of their Flash families but everyone else is just looking at it as an investment.
And honestly, the way the industry is imploding maybe buying mid quality toys now for $40 isn’t that crazy since the trend is towards $60 figures with one paint app within a couple years. In a decade Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman go public domain so who the fuck knows what toy companies will be allowed to make when they get a DC license and what they’ll be forbidden to make because DC doesn’t 100% own it anymore. Was Todd’s botched first appearance figure with the blue boots the last figure we’ll ever get of Action Comics #1 Supes?
I’ve been slowly buying Superman villains nobody cares about because they’ll likely never get made again and only a few people in this general understand how dire things are, and when things get really bad and everyone who collects toys turns to older lines to fill their shelves those $60 Livewire and $40 Power Girls are going to triple in value. Buy em now before we enter the full on fucking Dark Age.
