There's not a really functional way of doing that on a toy, even at a voyager price point, without making the copter blades really thick.
What I was suggesting is something similar to what we see in the transformation guide here. The part of her copter that the rotor sticks up from is colored red, just like the helicopter blades. I'd suggest the legs actually stick all the way down into helicopter mode, so you'd basically lift the rotor up from that red housing piece, then split it into 3.
You'd lose one of the joints (making it only have a knee joint) but it'd look worlds better than what we got.
