Remember those cheap Jakks toys that showed up for the KotM movie? I remember turning up my nose at them because they looked aggressively cheap, like movie cash-in garbage grabs of the most hurried variety. Definitely made the 6" vinyls look like high-end collector merch in comparison. So I ignored them. But then after I watched KotM, it actually sold me hard on Rodan, and I was hungry for some easy merch of that design, and not being able to find the Neca locally yet, I went ahead and grabbed some of the cheap Jakks figures for reasons amounting to 'why not'.
Turns out it's a little better than I expected, if you get one with a decent paint app on the eyes it's not terrible for a cheap toy. The big weird wing joints are actually decently placed for making for some believable poses, and it's shockingly well balanced. Other than the neck only having side to side swivel, it basically gave me what I wanted out of a Rodan, which is to be able to handle both flying and standing poses, which is tragically more than the Neca can do.
Basically long story short, if KotM Rodan is your man and you'd love a cheap one you can play around with, you could probably do worse than grabbing one of those Jakks figures, especially now that most of them are on Walmart clearance. Also keep your eyes peeled in the packaging, some versions come with different amounts of accessories for no reason.
For comparison, the Jakks Godzilla is kind of 'eh' because there's definitely better Godzillas you can get for not much more, and the Ghidora seems to be garbage both because the base color is bad and the articulation is useless, and also you might need to put a weight on the tail to even get it to stand up at all, and the wings are too heavy to pose well.
I couldn't find a Mothra because they were all out by the time I got some of these, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was basically similar to Rodan in maybe being a decent budget option if you loved that particular movie design.
