They can't afford expensive toys, so they feel the need to sell it at a moment's notice and
keep the box on hand at all times. Their bank account hovers at 21.32 every week after paying off their bills and splurging on the latest flavor of the month, so if anything out of the ordinary happens, like flat tire or water pipe breaks, they need to get money fast.
There's also a bit of importance, because of the price of a toy, they can't bear to part with anything, because the toy itself isn't actually worth the price they paid. So they save every little piece of cardboard and plastic from the packaging as if it makes up for the disappointment for the value of the actual toy itself.
It's a lot like how someone might save discarded ticket or clothing from an exGF or dead parent, because of unfulffilled feelings or regret.
It's a cause for hoarding.
Look at the people saying how much saving a dozen individual boxes somehow made moving easier, despite a single large box and everything put into baggies would have saved a ton more space and time when moving to another place. It's a weirdass cope.
Personally, I'm guilty of keeping packages around. I like pretty pictures and i have a pretty big hoard of shit i never got around to opening, because i never made space for it or/and still need to organize/clean an area.
Eventually, any packaging worth keeping gets flattened and my toys will go into boxes. I do display some toy packaging though, because i like the art.
