Every fucking time, I was just seriously debating buying an acrylic stand of a character for $50.

To people who avoid this feeling, how do you do it? I'm sure we've all had a moment where a character we loved was found only to have a shitty figure or a character who we buy any figure made for them. I know logically that spending that much money is absolutely ridiculous but the way I obsess over things makes me want any merch I can get.

I normally wait a month or so after watching something to see if I still like it enough to want to own merch of it, sometimes you can get too swept up in a series while you're watching it.

First mistake. If you're into toys you'd understand the time it was made would make it harder to find the more time has passed. Thats secondary thinking.

I didn't own any until the PAK Sakura came out.
Why?

Because almost every company was following in Hasbro's footsteps and just making generic as fuck sculpts for their toys.
Collector companys should strive for accuracy, putting forth their best talent to create something that looks like the source material, unlike childrens toys. Play Arts tried, but fuck their terrible engineering. Their first few releases looked horrible, despite the high quality sculpt and paint. By the time Sakura came out, the line was basically dead.

So i didn't buy another SF figure until Storm Collectors got the license.

My line is drawn at cost/market of the toy and the expectations of what the industry is capable of. I'd rather own nothing that put up with lazy efforts, so it makes it easy for me to ignore a series and not feel anything from missing out.
This is especially true for series that will be re-done a hundred times over, because popular series like Street Fighter will be getting merch until at least my generation dies, since SF was the golden child of the 90s fighter scene. So i can wait until something good is made.

I feel compelled too to go full completionist for niche series that I love.
But if the merch looks shit, I skip, no matter how cheap it might be.
As for the good merch, if I feel that the asking price (not latecomer tax) is absurd, I skip too. Paying 150 (including fast shipping) for a 1000toys Killy was the maximum I was willing to pay so far. And only because I'm insanely into the Blame! franchise.
Might do it again if the Dorohedoro figs turn out well. The statue plus figure bundles have me worried though.

Not a problem for me. I don't follow series, I pick a theme. Far-future Scifi humans/cyborgs vs synthetics. I collect figures I like that fit my theme and collect across lines as long as the figures scale believably. It does suck for collectors who want a particular line for it to end early though, especially if there are main characters missing, or the line has no antagonists or it ends after two figures.

ah, I was thinking particularly about Lupin III, Cowboy Bebop and BLAME!. They were the first lot that came to mind. So many bad choices from companies have cost them buyers and soured collectors.
