Where do you guys buy toys outside of online retailers and the usual target/walmart? I live in SoCal so I have frank and sons outside of the usual retailers.

Nowhere. We lost our Hastings when they went under, and now there are zero options outside of Walmart and online. We had a Toys R Us until they went under, a KB Toys until they went under, and now there is only WalMart. And even before the pandemic they never fucking restocked toys.

I had so many connections at Frank/sons, miss it thoroughly; I'd really go for comics though, as the toy sellers are pretty shitty most of the times, besides the Star Wars dude, he would always have good deals going. I miss Hastings too...when I moved to Colorado, it was my replacement, and a local comic store (while I lived in Aurora) was phenomenal. Now I am in North Dakota and I gotta hustle thru the muck for deals.

It is just online stores, Walmart, Target, and Gamestop. There is also a local chain that sells mostly DVDs and Video Games which also sells some toys.
Half the Gamestops nearby shut down, there are only two Walmarts that actually stock things (and it is still pretty barren), and three of the Targets are completely unpredictable when they get stuff in.
Kind of stinks. I am still spoiled with selection compared to most though. There is a toy shop that is 50 minutes away though that mostly has Star Wars and Marvel stuff.

Frank & Son is a fun place to walk around and browse, but I haven't gotten a good bargain there in ages. It feels like as it got bigger and more popular, sellers felt like they could push higher prices, and there were less and less of them willing to haggle. Good. Small businesses exploit people worse than big business. I'm kinda kidding, kinda not. The one time I worked for a smaller business, the owner whined at me about not helping her "dream" work by refusing overtime.

I used to go to a few stores in broward county but I stopped going once I realized they started marking up the prices, I just stick to buying things online. It's funny too cause these retards are the ones complaining about losing customers to online stores. Also the stock just sucks a lot of the time.

Do you guys have toy friends? I don't know anyone outside myself that collects toys. It looks comfy to meet up with a friend or two to go toy hunting with. I just would feel weird if they were a scalper or reseller though.

I've got a couple of normie friends who collect stuff like pops and the occasional action figure or two. Though they keep their stuff in the boxes. I recently found out my boss at work is a huge toy collector. He's mostly into MOTU though. It's crazy to think how much more acceptable the hobby has become over the years. Over 10 years ago people would give me weird looks when they asked what I was into and I would reply with collecting toys. These days people show interest and ask what kind of stuff I like to collect.

I live south of Lincoln, NE. Outside of Walmart, Target, and GameStop Lincoln has two locations for a store called ‘Toys from the Past’. They buy, sell, and trade vintage toys plus sell new collector stuff as well (they are the only other place I can count on for Neca stuff besides Target). I’ve sold off older figures when I was decluttering and made about $100 from the two lots. The guys there are pretty chill and rather knowledgeable on older lines and series. Their prices on older stuff is competitive with Ebay prices too, sometimes less when you consider shipping costs on some online listings,

Why the fuck would you shop at Frank's for toys are you stupid? They are literally all scalpers there that clear out the local box stores except for the Neca lady. I went last month and everyone's charging ebay prices for everything like the absolute retards they are. I saw maybe one guy that had okay prices on DBZ Figuarts and that's it. The Neca Lady is the best vendor in that hellhole.

Idk, most little places I go to are pretty fair, there are some bad ones though, it really just depends on the owner and how they feel about what they do. For some reason the toy department attracts sellers who don't give a fuck about toys/media and just see selling them as a kind of get rich quick scheme.

Actually not really. It’s a mixed bag. Was going through Trek figs at one booth, and the same figure for $5 at this booth was $15 at another. Just depends on the person selling. A LOT of sellers there are great, nice, and just want to help others get shit they like for a decent price. And it was like $10 to get in. This last one on Sunday was the best I’d ever been to. I say go anon. I think there’s another in October.

You can find tiny gems at Jungle occasionally. But it was definitely better before they renovated. They used to be such a nice cute little shop, quietly selling decently priced Figmas and Revos. Now they're loud and garish and annoying and overpriced to hell and back.
