I'm avoiding long-winded discussions to focus on Black Blaze, but my motivation is mostly going towards gaming right now.

What would be some good multiclass options for Arcane Trickster? While it's considered a good Rogue it's not exactly "meta" so I figure that an additional subclass might help balance it out.

Echo Knight is an interesting choice as it allows you to have basically guaranteed Sneak Attack from the Echo (basically a Double Team mirror image). Since I can play it DEX-based, it's easy for Alex to take. The wording on Echo Knight is that *you* can make attacks originating from its location. This means that if *you* are hidden from your target but can still see them, the attack will have advantage, even though this is intuitively nonsense because the Echo is right next to them and actually delivering the attack. But RAW, this makes delivering sneak attacks very reliable without having to worry about party positioning or other factors.

Gloom Stalker is another choice if I want Alex to lean into a "sniper" archetype (remember, rangers get significantly buffed by the introduction of firearms in addition to the new class features from Tasha). Invisibility to Darkvision as well as Darkvision of your own makes you basically impossible to see if you're invisible, and would help with ranged combat which rogues are not super good at doing even when firearms are introduced.

I'm not keen on using the popular MM Fighter Gunslinger subclass becauseTrickshots being WIS based is not a super good idea when DEX and INT are your pump stats and it trivializes the advent of firearms by making them a subclass thing. So, instead, if I wanted to lean into firearms, I'm going to bring in a homebrew class and go for one of the subclasses from there.

This is giving me a migraine. It PROBABLY isn't as big of deal as you might think, considering that you still have to be within 30ft of the echo, that sneak attack damage is fairly mid, and that enemies with some degree of brainpower would peg the echo as an illusion and conclude that an illusionist is nearby - how secure are you in your hiding spot? If you can see them, they can see you too. You also sacrifice a lot of range for this, with what the echo needing you to be within 30ft, and that you can only create echoes within 15ft of yourself.
So yeah in conclusion i hate this technically correct ruling and i would cry if you did it at my table.

Echo Knight is tempting to take because it serves a lot of story purposes, allowing Alex to make decoys or distract people with what they THINK is him, however, Echoes rely heavily on the Bonus Action and Alex needs that to dash/disengage/hide. Translated to “world logic”, Alex can only do so much within six seconds and the way that I imagine this is closer to hit and run tactics. But it’s still my main consideration for a subclass.
On the other hand, the homebrew Gunslinger I linked has perfect synergy with Arcane Trickster with DEX and INT being the pump stats and trick shots being done with INT mod. Basically everything except for Tactician and Battle Medic. Mystic Gunner seems a bit redundant. Highwayman in particular looks cool.
The Blood Thief one I linked honestly seems a bit too Gary Stu-ish for Alex to take just based on the fact that at this point his stuff would now be “base” home brewing instead of “homebrewing as an addon” with Gunslinger, but maybe it could work for the villain or a minor antagonist.

Hmmm. This mess with my head a bit. If she can poof any weapon she needs, why would she ask her sister to make rifles or equipment? If she can make anything appear, it feels a bit redundant to have tools around.
Not criticizing the Emily or anything, I just find it a bit weird. I always thought her thing was more melee weapons rather than having the US Army Depo on spiritual quick dial.

Cause the rifle Arai made is for dealing with mundane humans. Anything Emily can make would be overkill. And it's also just her personal rule. No using her actual powers on regular humans. Also the system for Emily's power is very tongue in cheek. The more similar a weapon idea is to a real weapon, the more she has to actually understand the mundane equivalent of it. Understanding the ins and outs of a Revolver is easier than a Sniper Rifle. Weapons that stray further from realism have more leeway and are more about understanding fundamentals of energy and simply being believable

Which is why most of her weapons are melee. Cause melee weapons are much simpler and the "fantasy" aspects to them only need a fundamental understanding to Infinity Energy and it's inner machinations. Which is where that book that has been mentioned in both Chapter 1 and 2 come in. It's basically a magic tome for her to study that gradually fills in with more and more info over time.

I added two thread questions, one to go with the task and one as a separate topic so there is no excuse to shit your pants about “fostering discussion” or whatever by separating the task and question.
