This is probably the biggest issue with Pokemon.

Meanwhile other JRPGs have crazy ass fight scenes with full voicing some 20 minutes into the game, and that's not to say a game needs voice acting and le epic cinematic graphics to be entertaining but just about everyone else is working a lot harder to keep the player engaged than Pokemon is. PLA kind of fixes this by just letting the player do whatever they want most of the time but all the core issues are still there.

Gardevoir was one of my best characters and I was able to pull a ~60% winrate with her in just solos. Now not only did they fix her main issue of evolving late, they made it so she gets all of stuff way faster, with Future Sight+ at 11. She's not just "usable" now, she's fucking amazing.
Its like Rock Lee taking off the weights.
