The beginning sucked because of Roark, but after that things went smoother, especially once Signal Beam/Power Gem were on my side. Having Hidden Power Ice was an absolute lifesaver for the Elite Four. However, even at my final level of 92, I was still losing a ton of my health to every hit. Without evolving, Mareep is very frail, and it shows the further into the game you get. Cynthia pretty much demands Substitute, as well.
