>>46449094the CD cards stand out in part because the backgrounds (especially the colours) genuinely complement the sugimori illustrations. the illustrations are also nicely framed, and i think they're mostly the early sugimori work, which is a lot more dynamic than the more universally used gen 1 illustrations. like, compare CD blastoise with base set blastoise (pic related). CD blows it the fuck out on quality of illustration alone.
