Ok, here's some dumb plot shit.
The region Dawn visited and subsequently rescued had been the home of a wicket cult that sought to resurrect their dark deity known only as the Black Fog. In actuality, it had been a Haunter of a biblical scale, worshiped as a god in its own right centuries back. However, as time passed, its faith began to diminish, and so to survive it began to terrorize and consume the people that had abandoned it. A band of heroes had defeated the Black Fog twenty-five years prior, but mysteriously the heroes had begun to die or vanish. Dawn's father had been one of these heroes, and her nightmares had been the memory of witnessing his death. Her fear burned into a righteous fury to not allow the Black Fog to rise again and ceased the ritual that would have sacrificed a "heretic" capitol in the beast's name.
Dusk had an uncle that passed away mysteriously too, and an unexplained second pokeball accompanied the Gurdurr, Gideon. It had been found that Dusk's uncle had been the last of the surviving heroes, and the parasite that began to work its way onto Dusk had been none other than the Black Fog itself. After its supposed defeat, the Black Fog had been robbed of what had been left of its strength, then began to hunt down those that overthrew it in an effort to reclaim its might by consuming them. Though after finally exacting its vengeance, it had recovered only so much. Dusk, the stubborn and resilient bastard that he is, turned out to be the jackpot the monster needed to rise back to power. In an event that no one remembers, however, the Black Fog had been stuffed into a Master Ball that had been glued shut with a Cleansing Tag.
