I think they've just run out of ideas and are desperately trying to come up with ways to still say there's new Pokemon in the new game. Rather than regional designs allowing them to be lazy, they were already lazy and you weren't going to get any more quality original Pokemon either way. Seriously, how many actually cool new Pokemon have there been in the past 2 gens? Like 20 total?
