There are HEAVY romantic undertones with a lot of the characters and themes (everything with Nemona, Carmine about to confess her feelings to you, Kieran's dynamic with you (I'm pretty sure, I'm not too well versed when it comes to that aspect of him)). I would love for them to lean more into it, but I understand why they didn't.
(Although I wish they had sweet hearts and heart scales in the game, just to drive the point home. I love that they made the conscious decision to include Luvdisc in Paldea despite there not being any heart scales. Really makes you think)
