>>209596120. I had lost my interest in Pokemon not because of it falling out of style, but due to how long they were dragging out the release of DP (Munchlax was revealed in 2004, then it was three years of Emerald and nothing but crappy spinoffs like Ranger and Dash), the AG anime becoming shit again eventually despite its strong start (somehow managed to stick with it after the Magma/Aqua fiasco, but dropped it the second Grovyle jobbed to a fucking Luvdisc so that Pikachu could do everything instead), and the cards becoming ugly and awful after Neo Destiny.
When the games were finally released, I got them on an R4 instead of buying them, and I was happy I did, since DP were the worst main games by far.
Awful designs, awful Pokemon distribution to the extent that even gym leaders and the E4 couldn't make a proper team at times, an edgy FF-esque rehash of the Magma/Aqua plot with dragon gods that look nothing like dragons, and graphics that had barely improved since gen 3 despite the DS being as powerful as a N64 (the switch to 3D could even have been done in gen 3, but nope, grid-based movement all the way until 2013).
If it weren't for anime Dawn being a qt and HGSS, I probably wouldn't have gotten into Pokemon again, but nowadays, I'm preordering ORAS and watching the anime raw (although I did it back during late Johto and Hoenn too).
