>>47625400Some people are really obsessed with painting the first generation as a completely different than what it is now so they have to latch onto the references to countries and animals to defend that viewpoint.
I agree, it didn't make much sense to focus too much on the real world references as they were most likely thrown around for reference more than proper worldbuilding(much like the indian elephants which were used as points of reference in monster books and thus reused in pokemon). The second you use "Saffron" instead of "Tokyo" you're already, at least in some level, separating the setting from the real world.
Also, as I said in this thread already, I find the notion of pokemon having always been commonplace more interesting as you can see a different world that developed differently(and also allowing for more story possibilities and less limitations) instead of just the one we know+magical creatures.
Even realfags themselves contradict themselves at times with the real world shit anyways. They insist the Kanto games suggest a war that happened right before Gen 1 which, if we apply their logic, wouldn't make sense as Japan didn't have a war in the 70-80s.
>>47625798>Was the Safari Zone an earlier iteration of battles?Could be a "fork" of that, I'd understand people claiming the game is boring if that was the case desu.
>Game Corner prices could be a leftover from buying pokemon. The numbers themselves maybe, but the corner is too tied to the plot and the slot minigame so its not like the prize house was simply a leftover pokemon store.
