Mega Metagross hasn't been released yet, but according to spreadsheets it would be weaker in terms of DPS, though Mega would stay alive for longer.
Metagross doesn't have a mega yet, so there's no use purifying this way or another. And when they do, it will be in raids and it's better to get one designated for Mega there than to waste a shadow with amazing IVs.
